Orangutans along with chimpanzees, bonobos and gorillas are our closest relatives in the great apes, or homonids family. Great apes are mostly vegetarian and love to eat fruit, leaves, roots and also nuts and grass seeds. They are known to use various tools, and except for gorillas, are agile climbers of trees.
FOUR PAWS is rehabilitating 13 orphaned orangutans in Borneo at the ORANGUTAN FOREST SCHOOL. With our pioneering school, we hope to someday release them back to the wild in a protected forest.
Besides orangutans, FOUR PAWS is also supporting the welfare and rehabilitation of critically endangered Western Lowland gorillas in Gabon, Africa. With the Fernan-Vaz Gorilla Project, we give these animals a second chance.
